The Christmas Tree Search

I wanted a fake tree this year. I really really did. The thought of walking around in the cold cold cold, searching for the perfect tree, (after arguing about whether we wanted long or short needles, a yearly argument...) with a three year old and a husband who is ultra picky about his real trees. "No, that one has a hole back there. No, that one isn't shaped exactly right. No, that one has one needle bent out of place. Oh wait, we'd have to cut off branches on that one..." You get the picture? See why at three months pregnant, I didn't really have the inclination or the energy to deal with this?

I asked for a fake tree, just for this year. But Aaron logically pointed out, "What do we do with it next year?" I thought to myself, "Use it???" but wisely said, "Put it in the attic til the next year when I don't want to hunt for the perfect tree." It was vetoed. Not even given consideration. Pfft.

So we went to the same place that we went last year. Meyer's on Route 4, a nice little nursery. Good trees, not terribly priced, and good people. I was dressed from mine and Ethan's Christmas program this morning (more on that later) meaning that I had on decent teacher clothing and shoes. Not good snow shoes. Not good snow clothes. In five minutes, my socks were soaked, and I was grumbling. Aaron had circled the perimeter of the trees in our height range, and was now beginning to start walking the grid. (Jeffery Deaver fans out there, you know what I mean). All of a sudden, Ethan says, "POOPY" and praise the heavens, he wanted me to take him into the nice warm store to go to the bathroom! Twist my arm! We went in, and spent a good ten minutes in the ultra small bathroom. When we came out, we drifted slowly towards the outside, in the hopes that Aaron had already found the perfect tree.

HE HAD!!! He showed us the tree, it was great! No branches needed to be cut off, it wasn't lopsided, it was the perfect height, and the branches had already settled down. YAY! So they wrapped the tree, loaded it on our car, and off we went. Tonight the decorating will commence. The cats have already explored the tree, and Joe finds it fascinating. Hopefully the decorations will be safe, but I'm not holding my breath. I'll post a picture of the tree when it's finished.

I'm glad we didn't get a fake one. This one is pretty.

Ethan is a ham. At his Christmas program, he sang his little heart out. And during the finale, he pulled his Santa hat down over his head and sang though it, peeking out every now and then to grin at those who were giggling at him. He wasn't scared. He was eating up the giggles. What a boy! He's definitely my kid. I love being the center of attention--why shouldn't he? pictures to be posted later too, I think. :)

Congrats on the tree--it's a beaut!!! I have been dreading the tree hunt. Our 10 month old is so into everything, unlike our first daughter. I love real trees, but I convinced my husband that we need to get a small fake tree this year and put it on top of our game table (it can still be tall since we have 9 ft. ceilings) just to keep it away from Genna. Sigh. Guess I am going to Target tomorrow...
