Thanksgiving Dinner

So I made beautiful sweet potatoes with a brown sugar topping. And some yummy cherry crisp (went away from the cobbler idea) that I should have cooked for a bit longer, but that's ok.

So we went up to Aaron's parents place. And there was a plethora of food. Turkey, potatoes, green beans, acini bikini salad (my name for it, I think it's actually acini de pepe) stuffing/dressing, fried oysters (ick!), cranberry stuff, and so much more. Such a lovely table. So many smells. Oh the smells.

Smells are not always good to a woman in her first trimester of pregnancy. I managed to eat some acini bikini salad and some sweet potatoes, then had to run for the bathroom. I did not eat the turkey, the dressing, the green beans, the mashed potatoes, or the cranberry sauce. My Thanksgiving dinner consisted of sweet potatoes and acini bikini. Then a few hours later, it was dessert time. So I got an assortment of desserts-- cherry crisp, pecan pie, and peanut butter pie. Yeah. I ran for the bathroom then too. So I really didn't get any dessert either. Sigh.

And then when we were traveling to Georgia, and I was craving McDonald's, Aaron passed the only open McDonald's (it was, after all, Thanksgiving night) and refused to turn around because we were on the interstate, to go back and get me some french fries. (He says that in his defense, he didn't notice that it was open til we passed it, and that I didn't ask very strenuously to go back...) My stomach growled and growled. And to top things off, around 2:30 in the morning, 30 minutes outside of my hometown, Ethan got car sick. He puked. I heard him start to do it, so what did I do? Like any stupid mom, I grabbed a paper towel, and when that was full, used my hands to catch the puke. Didn't want it to get on his car seat, you know? Those covers are HELL to get off! And as he was puking, he said "I'm puking just like you, Mommy." I had to laugh, wouldn't you? He was so proud of himself for puking like mommy. So proud, in fact, that when we got to our destination, he tried two more times to puke and was disappointed that he couldn't. Of course, at 3:30 in the morning, I wasn't so disappointed, or even so proud.

But all in all, Thanksgiving was great. I didn't gain much weight, didn't eat myself to stuffedness, and enjoyed my time spent with my husband and his family. It took me a while to find my niche in his family, but I now feel so comfortable in his family, that spending time with them is truly something that I look forward to.

I'd also like to send out a shout to my fellow blogger, Misfit Hausfrau , whose blog made tears come to my eyes, and I've never even met her or her husband. If you feel like being sappy and reading about true love, take a peek at her entry for Thanksgiving day. Sigh!

Farewell and Goodnight. This is Jenette ( professional pregnant puker) signing off.
